Crown's Jewel Review

I've been really trying to get back into reading again. It was something I did when I just could not handle life anymore. I escaped into different worlds where I could lose myself for hours. Since moving out of my parents house two years ago I lost my love for reading. I never found time out of my busy work schedule. I got a boyfriend which took up a lot of time as well. So it took a lot to get me to start reading again. This book was my first book that I picked up and toughed through to get my creative juices flowing and find my long lost love again. And let me tell you it was a disaster.

The book itself was not the problem. It was one of those " Its not you its me" things. Crown's Jewel by Cynthia Toliver is a wonderful read that takes you back to early 1930 America. You meet Crown McGee the most ornery boy you could imagine. A real jerk over all, but as you read along you can't help to sorta sympathize for him. most of the time you'll wanna bash his head in for being such an ass but he like every human being has his soft spots. This includes Jewel Giddings, the slow daughter of Sam Giddings (You'll learn about him in the book. Hey don't blame me I'm not giving the story away) and his daughter Sela Mae McGee. He deals with a lot of inner demons involving his daddy issues and self esteem issues. It seems bland when your first start reading it but after you tough it through the first few chapters you start screaming "what the hell is going on right now." this book has no boundaries which makes it a gem. It makes it real. There are times when you wanna smile like a giddy fool, and there are times when you wish you could jump right into the pages and smack Crown across the face for being such an ass. However the story had a happy sappy ending which you will come to find out I'm a sucker for.

If you're looking for a historical romance with more of an Inner demon kind of feel to it this book is the one for you.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
